Learn to play Españoleta
, by Gaspar Sanz! This lovely tune is a joy to practice and play.
Gaspar Sanz was a guitarist, organist and priest in the baroque musical period, along with other notable composers such as Bach, Vivaldi and Pachelbel. He was born into a wealthy Spanish family, and was a professor of music at his alma mader, the University of Salamanca, in western Spain (northwest of Madrid).
Sanz wrote several “españoletas”. (The word “españoleta” translates loosely to “old Spanish song”.) And this is one of his most popular and well-loved. Españolota
evokes images of Old Spain. It is a classic of the guitar repertoire, and audiences love it (and often recognize it!).
This course includes two versions – one slightly more difficult than the other. They fit together as a compelling variation. But either may be played with repeats as a stand-alone piece. The more basic version is suitable for players at the beginner/early-intermediate level. The more advanced version is suitable for players at the Early-Intermediate to Intermediate level (due to bar chords and trills).
